Response to Mr. Heck

Dear Editor, Again, some right-wing extremists want to cast liberals as hating the “national Constitution”, “the founders”, and “capitalism”, and “wish for or promote socialism, communism, and/or Marxism.” This is according to Mr. Heck’s letter appearing in The Standard’s Sept. 15 edition titled “Sizing up the magnitude of the American problem.” I hope people notice how he cleverly skirts the fact that Fox News has some 9,000 employees, or that some of their on-air personalities have been censured. Tucker Carlson for being untruthful, Laura Ingraham for insulting a Parkland shooting survivor, or Jeanine Pierro for some of her rhetoric. How…

This sinful generation pt. 2

Dear Editor, This is what we need to do when sin comes pounding on our heart’s door. Don’t open the door of your heart to sin, no matter how attractive it is. Genesis 19: 22-26 says: “’Haste thee, escape thither; for I cannot do anything till thou become thither.’ Therefore the name of the city was called Zoar. The sun was risen upon the earth when Lot entered into Zoar. Then the Lord rained upon Sodom and upon Gomorrah brimstone and fire from the Lord out of Heaven; and he overthrew those cities, and all the plain, and all the…

Possible COVID Christmas cash

MOHAVE COUNTY – Ron Gould is the only Mohave County Supervisor who hasn’t yet spent a penny of more than $8 million in American Recovery Act Plan (ARPA) funds allotted to his district under an equal distribution plan previously approved by the governing board. And if he executes his stimulus style approach, the people of District 5 could be enjoying some coronavirus cash before Christmas. While his counterparts are spending money on parks, substance abuse, broadband internet technology, and water lines, the “Gould Give-back” plan would allocate funds directly to the people of his 5th District. Gould says crude calculations…

Corrected tax statements issued

LAKE HAVASU CITY – Mohave County applied the wrong levy rate and over-billed owners of some 46,000 property parcels in the Lake Havasu Unified School District (LHUSD). The mistake was discovered after the County mailed out thousands of notices for annual property tax payments. “The Mohave County Financial Services Department made a scriveners error in entering the Class B Bond Debt service levy and rate,” said Financial Services Director Coral Loyd. “This was a clerical error in keying the data into the schedule.” Communications Director Roger Galloway noted the applied rate was more than 3 times what should have been assessed….

KINGMAN – Authorities are looking for a Kingman family that vanished after a planned camping outing at Katherine’s Landing in Bullhead City. Kingman police are hoping the public will provide information helping them locate Erika Irene Allison, 36, her husband Joshua Robert Martinez, 30, and Psymon J. Kelly, Allison’s 17-year-old son. Police spokeswoman Jennifer Sochocki said it is believed that the family left Kingman on Sept. 11 for a 7–10-day excursion at Lake Mohave. She said the 4-door gray 2005 Toyota Corolla (wheelchair license plate GAC93) was last leaving a residence in the 2400 block of Karen Avenue. Sochocki said…
