Dear Editor,
Again, some right-wing extremists want to cast liberals as hating the “national Constitution”, “the founders”, and “capitalism”, and “wish for or promote socialism, communism, and/or Marxism.” This is according to Mr. Heck’s letter appearing in The Standard’s Sept. 15 edition titled “Sizing up the magnitude of the American problem.” I hope people notice how he cleverly skirts the fact that Fox News has some 9,000 employees, or that some of their on-air personalities have been censured. Tucker Carlson for being untruthful, Laura Ingraham for insulting a Parkland shooting survivor, or Jeanine Pierro for some of her rhetoric.
How dare those left-wingers have the unmitigated nerve to expect millionaires and mega-corporations pay taxes. I understand General Electric Co., FedEx, Nike, Dish Network, etc. are in that group. When Warren Buffett boasts he pays less tax than his secretary, and people like Jeff Bezos and Bill Gates use Reagan-era tax loopholes to avoid paying taxes, you get where the liberals are coming from.
Democratic President Joe Biden thinks anyone making over $400,000.00 per year could perhaps be asked to pitch in a little more instead of expecting teachers to work 2 jobs just to support their families and be able to pay taxes at a rate higher than some of the wealthy.
When Donald Trump was elected President, one of his promises was “to clean out the swamp.” Instead, he left a cesspool. Conservative extremists attacked the Capitol, and Trump did nothing to stop it. Gretchen Whitmer, Governor of Michigan, was threatened with death by a group of radical right-wing extremists, and Trump was silent. During the Presidential debate, when Trump was asked if he would denounce white supremacists, he said, “Proud boys, I stand by!”
