KINGMAN, AZ – The City of Kingman has begun mailing petitions to property owners within two proposed city-initiated annexation areas as the next step in the annexation process.
The petitions allow property owners to formally indicate whether they support or oppose inclusion of their property within the corporate limits of the City of Kingman. Under Arizona law, annexation requires signatures from property owners representing more than one-half of the persons owning real and personal property, as well as owners of more than one-half in value of all real and personal property that would be subject to taxation by the City if annexed.
The City previously held a public hearing on May 5, to receive input on the proposed annexation areas. The proposals include:
Annexation Case AN25-0001, East Hualapai Foothills Area:
This area includes approximately 4,238 acres generally located south of Southern Avenue, north of Hualapai Mountain Road, and east of Cherokee Street. The area is planned for a mix of residential, commercial, and open space uses, supporting future housing opportunities while preserving natural open space.
Annexation Case AN25-0002, Airport Area:
This area includes approximately 3,415 acres adjacent to and surrounding the Kingman Airport. The area includes portions of the kinsman Industrial Park Master Development Plan, the Route 66 commercial corridor, and airport-related land intended to support future industrial, commercial, and aviation-related development.
Property owners receiving a petition are asked to review the information carefully, check one box indicating support or opposition, sign the petition, and return it to the city. All responses, regardless of position, must be received by the city no later than December 31. Signed petitions in support of annexation must be filed with the Mohave County Recorder within one year of the public hearing.
