LAKE HAVASU CITY, Ariz. – An apparent murder suicide is under investigation in Lake Havasu City. Police Department sergeant Kyle Ridgway said officers responded at 1:42 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 1 to a report of a shooting in the 900 block of Coconut Grove Drive.

Arriving officers reportedly found an adult male and female dead of apparent gunshot wounds. Ridgway said it was determined that the married couple had argued inside the home over divorce proceedings.

“During the dispute, a physical altercation occurred between the male and his adult son, who was attempting to intervene and de-escalate the situation,” Ridgway said. “Following the altercation, the male retrieved a shotgun from another room in the residence and shot the female multiple times.”

Ridgway said the man entered another room where he died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The deceased are identified as Brian Smith, 60, and Laura Smith, 49.
