Extreme storm cause MEC outages over weekend

BULLHEAD CITY, AZ – Throughout the weekend, Friday, August 18 – Saturday, August 19 twenty-six separate outages in Mohave Electric Cooperative’s (MEC’S) service area affected over 4,800 MEC members. The majority of the outages were due to lightning striking lines, transformers, and other electrical equipment. MEC crews worked tirelessly throughout the night restoring power to all members by Saturday, August 19 at 1:57 p.m. The largest outage occurred at 5:49 p.m. on Friday in the Western service area for 1,949 members when winds from the extreme storm tore down a line, causing the circuit to lock open at the Big Bend Substation….

MOHAVE COUNTY – Mohave County Department of Public Health (MCDPH) is currently responding to an identified case of active tuberculosis (TB) in one individual previously on the campus of the Diamondback Elementary School in Bullhead City. The school has identified 400+ individuals who were potentially exposed. Lake Mead NRA officials announce reopening of the park

BOULDER CITY, Nev. – Lake Mead National Recreation Area officials are reopening the park Tuesday after closing on August 19 as a safety precaution in anticipation of the arrival of Tropical Storm Hilary.   “Thankfully, there were no injuries and facilities received minimal damage in the wake of this storm,” said Acting Superintendent Mike Gauthier. “We are pleased to announce we are open for business again.”  Most facilities and services are fully operational.
