Animal shelter receives $345,000 donation

MOHAVE COUNTY – A donation of $345,000 from the estate of the late Joanne E. Barton for the new Mohave County Animal Shelter was formally accepted during Monday’s Board of Supervisors meeting. The shelter is under construction on county property north of the Kingman District Library on Burbank St. Susan Pena, Barton’s friend of 30 years, has served as the administrator of the estate of the woman who retired after more than 20 years as a Colonel in the U.S. Air Force. Class is back in session at MCC campuses, enrollment up  

MOHAVE COUNTY – Monday was back to school for students at Mohave Community College. Many returned to continue their higher education journey and many new students are taking the first step to earn their degree and/or certificate.    Enrollment is up this semester by roughly 6% with approximately 4,000 students taking classes across all campuses, as well as online and live remote via Zoom.  Students are also still signing up for shorter term fall semester classes, which begin in September and October.  Students returning to class Monday were excited for the fall semester and all the College events, leadership opportunities and other…

BLM lifts fire restrictions in central and western Arizona

Effective Friday, August 25 at 8 a.m., the Bureau of Land Management will lift all seasonal fire restrictions for public lands administered by the Phoenix and Colorado River Districts, including the Kingman, Lake Havasu, and Yuma field offices as well as the Hasssayampa, and Lower Sonoran field offices. Due to increased precipitation across the area, additional rain in the weather forecast, and a rise in fuel moisture, it has been determined that the likelihood of wildfire has lessened to the degree that the restrictions can be rescinded.  Before going hiking or camping, ensure you are aware of fire regulations, restrictions, or area…

Bullhead schools mark opening of on-site employee childcare center

BULLHEAD CITY – Several dozen community leaders helped the Bullhead City School District (BCSD) ceremonially launch a childcare program for BCSD employees.  Located on the Coyote Canyon School campus, the center was approved earlier this year by the BCSD governing board as a way to recruit and retain employees who are concerned about safe and affordable childcare.
