Don’t give up your personal freedom

Dear Editor, You may create instability and insecurity for your personal life if you put others in charge of your decisions.  The idea of a child or acquaintance “shouldering” your life’s concerns and finances might feel comforting. Having someone else pay your bills and oversee your welfare might feel like a relief. For many it ends up being the end of freedom and security.  You love your children, or that special niece or grandchild. You are so bonded to them. You may feel that adding their name to your checking or other financial accounts will increase your bond and the…

Fire danger informational notice

Dear Editor, Due to the High Fire Alert in Mojave County this year, now would be a good time to clean up your easement on your property. Property Owners who have block walls will possibly be better off than wooden and chain link fences for fire. Reference the Declaration of Covenants, Limitations and Restrictions, under easements (Art. 1, Part 8, Easements, 1972); “Within all Easements, no structures, planting, fencing or other material shall be placed or permitted to remain, which may damage or interference with installation and maintenance of utilities.” This would include weed abandonment. The fire department and Mojave…

Medical care, American Dream or Nightmare?

Dear Editor, Until recently my wife and I paid over $2,000 a month for medical insurance. We each had a $6,000 deductible. One year we both had procedure’s which meant we had $12,000 in out of pocket expenses. There were also some other “uncovered” medical costs throughout the year which resulted in over $40,000 in medical insurance and out of pocket costs. The procedures themselves of course cost far and above what our out of pocket expenses were. Most likely if we had not had health insurance the doctors and medical facilities would not have performed them. In America, you…

Invest in yourself

Dear Editor, The best investment you can make is in yourself.  You can work, invest, save and accumulate wealth but what good is it if you ignore yourself? A friend of mine once said, “If I had known I was going to live this long, I would have taken better care of myself.”  A sure way to undermine your financial security is to neglect your health. Failing health always results in life insecurity. When your health fails you don’t feel like working. You aren’t able to enjoy life or take care of others. Whatever you have accumulated financially will go…
