Thank you for reading The Standard newspaper online!

Does anyone have common sense?

Dear Editor, Well, not the governor of Arizona, Mohave County five districts Board of Supervisors, or Valle Vista seven Board of Directors, four of July committee, or the fire chief or Sheriff’s Office on having fireworks at Mohave County Fairgrounds or in Valle Vista. You would think with a fire alert in Mohave County and 30 fires already burning would have been a hint to not have fireworks this year. Common sense but no luck, even another newspaper had a survey with the majority voting against fireworks this year. The politicians went ahead anyway … dumb, dumb, dumb. It’s all…

The Stars and Stripes

Dear Editor, I keep hearing that the majority of Americans want to tear down and replace our flag “The Stars and Stripes” because it is racist. It frightens some people when it is flown on the back of a truck. I find that very interesting. I had always thought the “Stars and Stripes” was the Union flag during the war between the States. Wasn’t the Union the side that freed the slaves? Wouldn’t that mean that it was anything except racist? I also thought that the “Stars and Stripes” was the flag our soldiers carried in Europe when they fought…

Short Story: The Last Alien Man

By Jack Mint I Being the last surviving male on a planet populated only by women isn’t as great as it sounds. They poke and prod. Now I know what these gals felt like getting pawed by guys. Air flared the nostrils of the head doctor and she said,…

Financial Suicide is not necessary

Dear Editor, There is some risk to all of life. A friend and his wife had a house paid for and a substantial savings account. At the age of 65 he was retired and bored and bemoaned he had never been a business owner. He was aware of a family who had recently closed a business so he offered to buy it from them and even employed a family member to run it. He knew nothing about the business but was confident all would be well. The cost of the investment, his lack of understanding the business and the monthly…
