KPD annual report for 2019 presented

Criminal case clearance rate is higher than national average Retiring Kingman Police Chief Bob Devries presented his last annual report during the March 3 City Council meeting. His biggest regret is that some manpower challenges limited Kingman Police Department (KPD) proactivity in 2019. “We did see a decline in our traffic stops,” Devries said. “We had a significant drop but our traffic division was cut and our officers were down by 20%.” Devries told council members arrest numbers were down slightly in 2019 but still pretty consistent with recent year’s past. Sex torture convict to spend remainder of life in prison

KINGMAN – The case of a convicted killer who sexually tortured his wife and stepson four years ago ended Friday with a life prison sentence and a strong rebuke by a local judge. The wheelchair-bound Jerry Gilligan, 72, is not eligible for release from the Arizona Department of Corrections for 167.5 years. “You are simply pure evil,” Judge Billy Sipe told Gilligan. “You are now going to spend the rest of your life in prison and society will be much better off.” Gilligan was released from prison in 2014 after serving 25 years for the murder of his stepfather in…

Plea agreement pending for teen

Blanchard allegedly committed violent robbery, was driver in fatal crash KINGMAN – A plea agreement has been entered for a teenager held responsible for separate fatal traffic accident and violent robbery incidents in Golden Valley. Marcus Blanchard, 18, pleaded guilty Wednesday to armed robbery and negligent homicide. Prosecutor Bob Moon told the Court that Blanchard was just 16 years old when other juveniles were scared he was driving too fast before he lost control and crashed a vehicle on State Route 68 in May, 2018. Deputy injured during chase

A deputy suffered minor leg injuries after a law enforcement vehicle pursuit from La Paz County ventured north into Mohave County Wednesday, Feb. 4. KINGMAN – The Kingman Police Department is investigating a scam that resulted in a Kingman couple being scammed out of hundreds of thousands of dollars. In this scam the suspect arrived at the victim’s home, dressed in business attire, pretending to be from the US Department of Treasury. Over the course of several days and several transactions the couple provided several hundred thousand dollars to the scammer. KPD detectives are investigating. The suspect information is limited.
