Dear Editor,
In his typical Trump fashion that in ways had nothing to do with the State of the Union he addressed the nation that at times felt like a production with showy promos.
Knowing he and male Olympic hockey winners had a good locker room laugh about female Olympians that too brough home the gold and in past year smore than the men. But once again leave it to Trump he creates division wherever he an.
Giving the Medal of Freedom to the male team – the highest civilian honor (?!?). As if winning gold medals wasn’t enough Trump had to top it off and make it about himself, saying, “I should be able to give myself one too!”
What felt like just another way of distracting us from the major issues of our country he then told stories in ways only Donald Trump would, describing in such gruesome details no one should want to hear told in that way about a loved one’s tragic event.
While ignoring the killings and Pretti and Good, and the victims who suffered at the hands of his longtime friend Jeffrey Epstein. They purposely sat where they could be seen yet not once were these brave survivors mentioned. But then of course with Trump’s name all over the Epstein files I suppose it was too awkward for a man as great as he thinks he is to trouble himself to be humble just a little and try to show some compassion. A missed opportunity to show a better side of himself that’s been troubling many Americans.
Or the young man Marcelo who’s been in the U.S. since he was seven his governor invited him to the State of the Union as an exemplary immigrant (as thousands of others are) active in sports and church and making good grades legally in the system, yet, when DHS caught wind he was in the chamber they told him he wasn’t welcome with the reason, he’s not a citizen.
So much for trying to convince us it’s only about the worst of the worst that Trump emphasized in his address to the nation. Which only added to the list of his discriminations was a sign held up during the address that read, Black People Aren’t Apes. Reminding Trump what he recently tweeted about the Obamas. That congressman too was escorted out. Just some reminders of what is at the heart of the State of our Nation and with this president and his administration: Sexism, pedophiles, bigotry and racism and now war. A matter of concern G.F. addressed in his op letter, ‘The president may use war to influence elections outcomes.’ Which Trump did elude to in his address, ‘he might be president in 2028,’ saying, ‘Stranger things have happened.” Really? A war he started without the approval of congress and the people! But then Trump thumbs his nose at the SCOTUS still trying to shove his illegal tariffs down Americans’ throats solely for his pet projects.
Like going to war with Iran. Saying he needs to take out their nuclear weapons he said last summer swearing to Americans he ‘obliterated.’
While he’s trying to use immigrants and China as an excuse to dismantle our voting systems. G.F.’s concerns should be all of our concern. The best take away from the State of the Union address was the recognition given to our U.S. military and Coast Guard. Unfortunately these brave public servants were clouded over with all the frat boy mentality with the smirking and laughing and clapping at all of Trump’s partisan smears and egotistical jokes. Which only reconfirmed what many Americans are concerned about: Who and what is running our country right into the ground. While Trump calls us a “hot country” our moral standards are faltering with the world.
But as fate would have it with what polls are showing while Trump and his administration boars and brag about their unseen accomplishments and mock and belittle others, as it is said in Proverbs 16:18: “Pride comes before the fall.”
