Push for cultured meat research

Dear Editor, The Farm System Reform Act — a bill championed by Cory Booker, which would ban factory farms — should include funding for cultured-meat research. For those who don’t know, cultured meat is grown from cells, without slaughtering animals. This technology would ameliorate many problems the Farm System Reform Act seeks to address. Most obviously, cultured meat resolves concerns about animal welfare, as animals aren’t involved in the process. But it would also benefit human health and the environment. Cultured meat is produced in a sterile environment and doesn’t require artificial growth hormones or unnecessary antibiotics. It requires a…

Who are you going to support?

Dear Editor, Once again a letter writer raises my ire. Hopefully this country is evolving, by looking back at a past where slave ownership was acceptable, and black individuals or women could not vote. In order to emphatically right these wrongs Constitutional Amendments 13, 15, and 19 were added. Today there seems to be a vocal segment of the population which is opposed to same sex marriage, transgender rights, and a woman’s right to reproductive choice. To those individuals, I would ask how your life has been unfavorably impacted by the last three mentioned? For example, how has Ellen DeGeneres’…

Kingman’s theme this year was to be “Create Peace” thus your silent gesture…

Schools opening and COVID-19

Dear Editor, Throughout the country school systems appear to be somewhat stunned on how to make our schools safe from COVID-19. COVID-19 is odorless, tasteless, invisible and everywhere. Our young people are counting on us to get this right so they can get back to some sense of normal learning activity. We know things will not be back to normal for a while, and that everything is getting wiped down, but more needs to be done. I lead a community team in the design of a 20,000 sq. ft.  youth facility and interestingly we designed it in a U shape….

Some of America’s Problems Can Be Fixed

Dear Editor, Some of America’s problems can be fixed. Voting in the November election should not be a problem for Americans. Open the polls for at least two days. Every state should open their polls from 6 AM until 8 PM. Some states already have later evening hours like Californians who may vote until 8 PM and New Yorkers who may vote as late as 9 PM. Some states allow you to show up at the courthouse and vote early. You vote on one of the voting machines like always if you aren’t available to vote on November third. Indiana…

Foster extends thanks for community support

To the Amazing People in Supervisorial District 1: Thank you to those who believed in me, voted for me, worked on fundraisers, walked with me and opened your hearts as well as your wallets.  I am not a financially wealthy person and appreciate all of those who contributed to my campaign (both large and small). This enabled me to run a competitive campaign. It is not in my DNA to talk incessantly about myself (but it is often expected in political campaigns); rather, I wanted to hear about YOU.  As I often said, for me it is more personal than…
