Tourism to Lake Mead National Recreation Area creates $336 million in economic benefits

A new National Park Service report shows that 7.6 million visitors to Lake Mead National Recreation Area in 2018 spent an estimated $336 million in local gateway communities while visiting the park. These expenditures supported a total of 3,990 jobs, $149 million in labor income, $247 million in value added and $397 million in economic output in local gateway economies surrounding Lake Mead National Recreation Area. The peer-reviewed visitor spending analysis was conducted by economists Catherine Cullinane Thomas and Egan Cornachione of the U.S. Geological Survey and Lynne Koontz of the National Park Service. Rotary learns about WWII Memorial restoration

Speaking at Kingman Route 66 Rotary Club’s May 24th meeting was Terry Flanagan, Commandant of Marine Corps League 887. Flanagan spoke to the club on the World War I Memorial currently being restored by the Marine Corps League’s Devil Dogs. In the 1990’s the machine gun figure between the doughboy and sailor disappeared at a time when copper was being stolen throughout the area and it is being replaced by the Devil Dogs. Dedication of the memorial is scheduled for June 29th in front of the courthouse.

Tourism to Grand Canyon National Park creates economic benefits

A new National Park Service (NPS) report shows that the 6.3 million visitors to Grand Canyon National Park in 2018 spent $947 million in communities near the park. That spending supported 12,558 jobs in the local area and had a cumulative benefit to the local economy of $1.2 billion. “Grand Canyon National Park welcomes visitors who come from across the country and  around the world,” said Sarah Creachbaum, acting Superintendent. “We know that  these visitors make significant contributions to the economy – local, state and national. Milne receives seven years for abuse of daughter

Arizona Department of Child Safety (DCS) employees offered rebuttal when a Bullhead City man minimized his involvement in the abuse of his eight week-old daughter last November. Defense attorney Kenneth Beane said 23-year-old Dalton Milne suffered a momentary loss of self control. “I’m sorry this happened. I kind of lost control,” Milne told Mohave County Superior Court Judge Derek Carlisle, during a May 25 sentencing hearing. Public comment sought on national park accessibility

The National Park Service is seeking public comment on a draft plan that provides recommendations to improve accessibility of visitor services at Lake Mead National Recreation Area.  An interdisciplinary team, including park and regional staff, identified key park experiences and park areas to determine which areas would be evaluated for accessibility needs. The team then developed implementation strategies for improving accessibility at each location.  The plan will guide changes to the way existing services, activities and programs are provided in multiple locations throughout Lake Mead National Recreation Area by defining what barriers limit accessibility and by providing recommendations on how…
