MOHAVE COUNTY – Mohave College is now enrolling educators in its new K-5 Literacy Endorsement Courses, providing a flexible and affordable pathway for Arizona teachers to meet the state’s literacy endorsement requirements and enhance evidence-based literacy instruction in the classroom.
Classes begin January 11, 2027, and are designed specifically for working educators seeking to fulfill Arizona’s literacy endorsement requirement for K-5 educators by August 2028. The coursework is aligned with Arizona standards and offers practical, research-based strategies that educators can immediately implement to support student literacy development and academic success.
“Strong literacy instruction is the foundation of academic success,” said Crystal Bryan, Associate Dean of Instruction for Liberal Arts and Social Sciences. “These courses are designed to empower educators with the knowledge, skills and tools needed to help students become confident readers and writers while meeting Arizona’s literacy endorsement requirements.”
The coursework is designed for currently certified elementary school teachers who need to meet Arizona’s K-5 literacy endorsement requirement. Educators can complete both courses in one semester. The courses are fully online and do not require any scheduled class meetings or other outside attendance.
With no prerequisites, the courses offer a flexible and accessible pathway for teachers to earn the coursework needed to apply for the literacy endorsement while continuing to work in the classroom.
Courses are taught by experienced instructors and are structured to provide flexibility while maintaining a high standard of instruction. Additionally, eligible students may be able to take advantage of Arizona Teachers Academy scholarship funding, which may cover tuition costs, making the endorsement more accessible for educators across the region.
Through the coursework, participants will explore proven teaching methods that support reading and writing achievement, strengthen foundational literacy skills, and improve classroom practices that contribute to student success. Educators will leave the program with practical strategies and tools they can immediately apply to enhance literacy outcomes for young learners.
