Arsonist takes plea deal, faces up to 12.5 years in prison

KINGMAN – A woman accused of twice setting fires at a downtown Kingman property faces a possible prison sentence after entering a plea agreement Monday. Patricia Craft, 28, pleaded guilty to one arson of an occupied structure count, in exchange for dismissal of a second arson charge. Craft was jailed on June 20 for allegedly setting multiple brush fires near the downtown Kingman home where she resided with seven other people, including her own children. Fire Department officials responded to three separate brush fire incidents near a residence in the 500 block of Gold Street. Deputy Kingman Police Chief Rusty…

Reavis handed off to federal authorities

Local authorities have declined prosecution of a Lake Havasu City resident who has been linked to the drug overdose-related death of a recording artist in California. Ryan Reavis, 36, was arrested when authorities seized prescription pills and weapons on September 23 from the home he and his girlfriend occupied in the 1000 block of Barcelona Loop in Lake Havasu. It was revealed that Reavis was a person of interest in the September, 2018 death of an accomplished rap star known as Mac Miller. A newly-unsealed federal indictment charges Reavis and two other California men with conspiring to distribute cocaine and…

Disclosure sought in sex trade case

A lawyer representing a Chinese immigrant who allegedly worked as a prostitute from her home in Bullhead City is demanding information about federal agents who purportedly paid his client and others for sex acts. Lake Havasu city-based defense attorney Brad Rideout on Monday filed his motion seeking additional disclosure so he can prepare for the trial of his client Yuqin Shu, 57. Shu is not charged with prostitution, but rather with money laundering for allegedly forwarding proceeds to others involved in an organization suspected of using women of Asian descent in massage parlor environments in Bullhead City and Lake Havasu….

Man kills pets, himself as National Domestic Violence Awareness Month kicks off

That a man shot two pet dogs and killed himself after a domestic dispute with his former girlfriend in Phoenix Saturday is another example of how animals can become a component in the domestic violence arena. “In the United States last year, we had over one million animals that were either hurt or killed due to domestic violence,’’ said Laura Escapule, a Domestic Violence Advocate with the Mohave County Attorney’s Office Victim/Witness program. “Usually if there’s some type of abuse in the home, there’s usually a direct correlation of abuse of a pet as well.” Escapule said pets sometimes simply…

Two who confessed to murder will not get death penalty

KINGMAN – The state is not seeking the death penalty for suspects who have reportedly confessed involvement in the murder of a Kingman woman and burial of her body which was encased in a 55-gallon drum. The revelation came during consecutive pre-trial conference hearings conducted Friday at the Mohave County courthouse in Kingman. Attorneys informed the court that plea agreement offers have been extended to Mark Baldonado, 31, and Carrie Vanover, 23. Both are charged with first degree murder, kidnapping, abandonment of a dead body and theft charges associated with the April 14 death of Shawn Vanover, 62. Court records…
