Officer and vehicles struck in wild chase

KINGMAN – A vehicle struck a law enforcement officer and two patrol vehicles were struck but no injuries were reported during a wild chase that ended in Kingman Monday afternoon. Mohave County Sheriff’s deputies responded at 1:39 p.m. to conduct a welfare check after a citizen reported spotting a male in a vehicle parked two days off Interstate 40, about 27 miles west of Kingman. “The reporting party advised she had observed several empty prescription bottles inside the car and the male subject was hiding under a blanket,” said sheriff’s office spokeswoman Anita Mortensen. Barrett receives 20 more years in prison

KINGMAN – A convicted sex offender from Bullhead City who is already serving more than a century long prison term was given more time behind bars during a Friday sentencing hearing in Kingman. Michael Barrett was previously convicted of ten counts of sexual exploitation of a minor for cell phone possession of images  of children engaged in various acts of pornography. Criminal case clearance rate is higher than national average Retiring Kingman Police Chief Bob Devries presented his last annual report during the March 3 City Council meeting. His biggest regret is that some manpower challenges limited Kingman Police Department (KPD) proactivity in 2019. “We did see a decline in our traffic stops,” Devries said. “We had a significant drop but our traffic division was cut and our officers were down by 20%.” Devries told council members arrest numbers were down slightly in 2019 but still pretty consistent with recent year’s past. KINGMAN – The case of a convicted killer who sexually tortured his wife and stepson four years ago ended Friday with a life prison sentence and a strong rebuke by a local judge. Blanchard allegedly committed violent robbery, was driver in fatal crash KINGMAN – A plea agreement has been entered for a teenager held responsible for separate fatal traffic accident and violent robbery incidents in Golden Valley. Marcus Blanchard, 18, pleaded guilty Wednesday to armed robbery and negligent homicide. A deputy suffered minor leg injuries after a law enforcement vehicle pursuit from La Paz County ventured north into Mohave County Wednesday, Feb. 4.
