County issues Request For Information (RFI) on historic jail

MOHAVE COUNTY The Mohave County Procurement Department has issued a rare and unique opportunity for parties interested in the responsible development and/or long-term lease opportunities for the County’s circa 1910 Historic Jail.  Alternative considerations include ownership acquisition or relocation and repurposing for entertainment or other compatible use.  The unoccupied structure exists on the National Register of Historic Places (No. 83002990) and is adjacent to the new Mohave County Law and Justice Center, currently under construction. Mobile home destroyed in fire

Fire destroyed a single wide mobile home in Kingman on Saturday. Personnel from the Northern Arizona Consolidated Fire District responded at 8:49 p.m. to the incident in the 4700 block of Powell Avenue. NACFD officials said that the home was fully involved upon arrival and that firefighters initially assumed a defensive posture to prevent spread of the fire to nearby homes. “Crews had the fire knocked down in about seven minutes with extensive mop up and overhaul needed,” a news release stated. “Residents had vacated the property prior to Fire Department arrival. Rotary Club gives mircrogrants to teachers

KINGMAN – At its July 19th meeting, Kingman Route 66 Rotary Club presented microgrants to 3 local teachers (shown right with club president Karen Brown). A $1,000 microgrant was awarded to Bethany Wigal to be used for a 3D printer for her Cerbat Elementary 5th grade class. A $605 microgrant was awarded to Jennifer Colbert to be used for 5 microscopes and film for her Cerbat Elementary 3rd grade class. A $350 microgrant was awarded to Susan Collins to be used for 40 high-quality recorders for her music class at Manzanita Elementary School.

Dairy Queen opened on Saturday

A brand new Dairy Queen opened in Kingman on Saturday, welcoming a steady stream of customers over the weekend. Co-owner Raman Kalra said challenges and issues associated with development on the small property parcel kept the store from opening before the summer season. “I really wanted to open up in February but we still have a couple of months of warm weather,” Kalra said. “I think we’ll stay busy and I hope this momentum continues.” Kalra said it’s no surprise that customers are flocking to the store for ice cream treats and other menu favorites. “DQ has a cult following….
