More than 600 college students are getting ready for their next big step in life, as they prepare to graduate from Mohave Community College. The college just announced, 587 students are graduating and the number will go higher because students are still submitting graduation applications, including students who will finish during the summer semester. Of the 587, there are 353 students who will earn associate degrees, while 234 will earn certificates.  Approximately 300 students have confirmed they will be participating in the college’s commencement ceremony on May 10. Children stand with their bicycles they won during the Kingman Masonic Lodge No. 22’s 13th annual “Books for Bikes” giveaway that was held at the new Kingman Sears store Saturday. The bikes for books was established to recognize and reward school students for reading excellence and the local schools tailored these programs to select nominees. Some students were unable to attend the actual bike giveaway ceremony, but they will receive their bikes at a later date. The students were from Black Mountain, KAOL Intermediate and Middle Schools, Cerbat Elementary, Cedar Hills, and Manzanita schools. The children read books and presented…

Speaking at Kingman Route 66 Rotary Club’s May 3rd meeting was Dorn (Pat) Farrell, President of Jerry Ambrose Veterans Council (shown right with club president Becky Fawson). Offering a hand up/not a hand out, the council’s goal is to provide a one-stop information center for Veterans and centralization of services. Farrell noted construction of the Arnold Plaza project is coming along and it will ultimately provide 25 apartments for transitional housing for homeless men and women Veterans. Occupants safely evacuated after their neighbor alerted them that fire was burning underneath their 5th wheel trailer in Lake Havasu City. Fire department personnel responded at 1:00 p.m. last Friday to the incident in the 1900 block of Victoria Farms Road. One pet was rescued and another went missing as crews extinguished the fire. No injuries were reported and the cause of the fire is under investigation. 

No one was injured in an early Monday residential structure fire in Kingman. Public information officer Oscar Lopez said crews responded at 1:50 a.m. to the fire in the 800 block of Crestwood Lane. “Personnel found the area of origin in the garage and proceeded to knock down the fire,” Lopez said. “Crews were able to quickly bring the fire under control from the interior and kept it from spreading into other areas of the home and attic.” Lopez said personnel from the Northern Arizona Consolidated Fire District assisted. Cause of the fire is under investigation.
