BULLHEAD CITY- Sudden strong wind gusts in northwest Arizona resulted in scattered outages throughout the Mohave Electric Cooperative service area this week. MEC crews were battling the elements to restore power to affected areas. According to the National Weather Service website, storms were expected to produce local, strong wind gusts reaching up to 60mph. MEC received reports of around 10 outages affecting approximately 3,000 members scattered throughout our east and west service areas. LAKE HAVASU CITY – Lake Havasu City Manager Jess Knudson is being directed to engage in some self-improvement activity following marathon deliberations by the city council. Knudson told a local newspaper weeks ago that he was embarrassed by what he called his own misbehavior featured in a You Tube video showing him in drinking environments with a young woman who briefly worked for the city. MOHAVE COUNTY – Mosquito surveillance conducted this week in Mohave Valley by the Mohave County Environmental Health Division (MCEHD) revealed the following locations that met the protocol to conduct fogging.  (The MCEHD uses the CDC’s recommended matrix as a guide of when to fog.) FOGGING: Adult mosquito control application will begin on Friday evening September 11 around 8:00 pm, weather permitting. MOHAVE COUNTY – The Mohave County Health Department (MCDPH) Nursing staff has been notified of 10 new confirmed COVID-19 cases reported today. There was also one new death reported. The death comes from a previously reported case, an 80-89 person in the Kingman service area. Of the 10 new confirmed cases, 6 are in the Bullhead City service area. GRAND CANYON – On September 4, in cooperation with the InterTribal Buffalo Council, Kaibab National Forest, and Arizona Game and Fish Department, National Park Service (NPS) staff successfully relocated 57 bison from the North Rim. All bison were transferred to the InterTribal Buffalo Council, who successfully transported them to the Prairie Band Potawatomi Nation (Kans.), Flandreau Santee Sioux Tribe (S. Dak.), Santee Sioux Tribe (Nebr.), and Modoc Nation (Okla.). Eleven additional bison were outfitted with tracking collars and released during the corralling process.
