MOHAVE COUNTY – Some gyms, bars, movie theaters and water related business enterprises shuttered by Governor Doug Ducey’s COVID-19 executive orders can apply to reopen in Mohave County. Fire closes local eatery

KINGMAN – No one was hurt when a popular downtown Kingman eatery was evacuated Sunday, August 30, when smoke filled its kitchen area. Kingman Fire Department personnel responded to Calico’s on Beale St. at 3:23 p.m.  Assistant Fire Chief crews detected an electrical fire had spread through the attic area of the restaurant. He said little if any flame was evident though the electrical incident caused significant smoke damage between the ceiling and rooftop.  Eaton said new trusses and other extensive repairs will be required before Calico’s can reopen.  Dave Hawkins

MOHAVE COUNTY – Bullhead City last week celebrated the career of newly-retired police chief Brian Williamson. Manager Toby Cotter told Bullhead City council members that the police department is in good hands with longtime Capt. Dennis DeSantis now serving as Acting Chief while the city searches for its next top cop. “He’s going to help me as we transition through this process to name our new permanent Chief,” Cotter said. “In the meantime, his (DeSantis’) retirement date is slated for June the 4th, so we’ve got a little bit of time to work through the process.” Two Kingman residents ended…
