Burgess bounced from ballot after ruling that majority of petition signatures are invalid

BULLHEAD CITY – Colorado River Union School District (CRUHSD) Governing Board President Kerry Burgess has been disqualified as a candidate for re-election in the November 3 general election. Mohave County Superior Court Judge Lee Jantzen ruled Thursday that plaintiff Royanne Ortiz prevailed in the lawsuit she filed challenging nominating petitions that Burgess submitted early this month to qualify his campaign. Central to her case was Ortiz’ contention that 25 of the 27 petitions turned in by Burgess failed to have been signed by circulators as is required under Arizona law. COVID-19 update: 70 new cases, five deaths

MOHAVE COUNTY – Late Monday afternoon, the Mohave County Health Department (MCDPH) Nursing staff was notified of 70 new confirmed COVID-19 cases. There are also five deaths from previously reported cases. Three are from the Lake Havasu City service area. One was in the 50-59 year age range; one was 60-69; one was 80-89. County sees slight slowdown in COVID-19 cases; face masks continue to be recommended

MOHAVE COUNTY – Recent weeks of sharp increases in COVID-19 cases in Mohave County slightly subsided last week. Department of Public Health Director Denise Burley told the Board of Supervisors Monday that she hopes the downward trend continues. “We can be happy to say that we’ve seen a decrease from previous weeks for the first time in months. Fiery fatal crash on US 95

LAKE HAVASU CITY – The Department of Public Safety is investigating a fatal head-on collision between Lake Havasu City and the Bill Williams River bridge. Agency spokesman Bart Graves said the Saturday crash on State Route 95 was reported at 9:51 p.m., at milepost 162.
