LAKE HAVASU CITY, Ariz. – Grace and Grit Rescue Ranch is the new nonprofit that will be teaming up with nonprofit Faith and Grace this season for their very first Havasu Hoedown fundraiser. Jamie Morris is the founder and executive director of the animal charity. Passionate about horses, Morris launched the organization in January of this year, as the therapy that helped her overcome substance addictions. The ranch was also created as a safe environment for rescued horses.
“I’ve always believed there is something incredibly powerful about the connection between horses and humans. Horses don’t care about your past, your mistakes or the things you’ve been through. They respond to who you are in the present moment,” Morris said.
For Morris, the chance to add value to a collective purpose is key. The profound beauty she gets is watching a frightened horse trade its defense for a gentle connection. They are contributing factors to little stitches that add to a large creation of something beautiful. “I don’t believe our past has to determine our future. If Grace and Grit can help even one person recognize their worth and courage to begin again, then every challenge of building this is worth it,” Morris expressed
Faith and Grace, a domestic violence prevention group that provides city emergency shelters for individuals escaping abusive households, will be working alongside the debut. Together, the two teams are working to secure sponsorships. They are also in the beginning stages of creating various projects while setting the needed groundwork to be of service.
Whether it is humans or horses, the opening of the year’s event is a merger with shared compassions toward victims of trauma. Fueled with family fun, the Havasu Hoedown will have raffles, auctions, children activities, bounce house, pony rides, food trucks, vendors, dancing, and music. The mission of the event is to put in place a thriving charity that will bring the town together.
Havasu Hoedown will be taking place on Saturday, Dec. 19 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Sara Park Rodeo Grounds, 1799 S. McCulloch Blvd.
