Mohave Community College Women’s Soccer posts historic first win of inaugural regular season

MOHAVE COUNTY – Mohave Community College Women’s Soccer put on an impressive showing over the weekend in California, as the Bighorns came away with a commanding 18-1 victory over Community Christian College. Saturday’s win gives the women’s squad its first-ever win of the inaugural regular season as well as the first win in conference play. 

“They were very excited and relieved to get their first win,” says Women’s Head Coach Robert Podeyn of his squad.

Mohave Community College awarded nearly $3 million federal grant to improve success for Hispanic and low-income students

MOHAVE COUNTY – The U.S. Department of Education just notified Mohave Community College (MCC) that the college will receive a prestigious grant totaling nearly $3 million.

The federal grant will support MCC’s Pathways to Success for Hispanic and Low-Income Students project. As a designated Hispanic-Serving Institution (HSI), MCC is committed to empowering students from diverse backgrounds, and this grant will bolster those efforts.

Mohave Community College Men’s Soccer remains undefeated at Firebird Field

MOHAVE COUNTY – Mohave Community College Men’s Soccer remains undefeated in Bullhead City following Saturday night’s 2-1 win over the College of Southern Nevada. The victory over CSN also means the Bighorns are 1-0 in conference play in the Arizona Community College Athletic Conference (ACCAC).

“For our fans and our team, and our recruits watching, this is what the ACCAC is: this is how conference play is,” says Men’s Head Coach Camilo Valencia.

MCC employees selected for Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities VOLARÉ Institute

MOHAVE COUNTY – Mohave Community College has been selected to participate in the Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities VOLARÉ Institute, which was made possible through a grant from the National Science Foundation. MCC team members that will attend the institute are Dr. Tonya Jackson, Associate Dean of Instruction-STEM, Dr. Cesar Fuentes, Life Science Faculty, and Angel Soto, Science Lab Technician.

As your Mohave County Treasurer, I am excited to bring you this month’s County Corner and share with you exciting news about the new bid process that allows for Over-the-Counter (OTC) sale of unsold tax deeded parcels that were previously available for purchase at a Tax Deed Sale. The outcome of this process is that you are purchasing land, not a lien. This new OTC bid process will begin this September and end November 30th. Starting in 2025, this process will then be available annually between April 15th and November 30th.

MCC students start fall 2024 semester, enrollment up

MOHAVE COUNTY – Students are back on campus! Mohave Community College started its fall semester Monday, Aug. 19 on all campuses with students returning to finish their degrees or certificates. The College is also welcoming new students who have decided to start their educational journey as an MCC Bighorn.

Enrollment is up by roughly 16% with over 4,500 students taking classes across all campuses and online.
