Mohave County Supervisors vote to send General Plan back to committee

MOHAVE COUNTY — The Mohave County Board of Supervisors voted to send the General Plan back to the Planning and Zoning Committee. The vote took place at the most recent Board of Supervisors meeting on August 4.

While supervisors were pleased with most of the General Plan, the Dorado development in Golden Valley remained a key source of disagreement. Many residents of the unincorporated community appeared once again to voice their disagreements with the development.

Residents argued that an open meeting law was violated at a local public comment session prior to the Planning and Zoning Committee meeting, which requires the public to be properly informed whenever changes are made to the General Plan.

While no votes were taken at the meeting in question, some county supervisors believed that the open meeting violation created a cloud of suspicion over the whole process.

“Let’s send this thing back, let’s start from scratch,” Supervisor Don Martin said during the meeting. “Let’s notice this properly so that everyone has a chance to weigh in. Let’s clean this thing up and get your input, and then we’ll vote on it.”

The board has sent the General Plan back to the Planning and Zoning Committee, which will work on a series of recommended changes proposed by supervisors. When the General Plan is ready, the Board of Supervisors will meet for a special session on a date set by the Chair. The next Planning and Zoning Committee meeting will be on August 13 at 10 a.m.
