Glen Canyon NRA and Rainbow Bridge NM, along with surrounding areas, are experiencing critical fire conditions including extremely dry fuels, above normal temperatures, low humidity, minimal precipitation, and competition for firefighting resources, as many fires ignite across the west and in the local area.
To assist with nearby wildfires, fire suppression aircraft will be drawing water from Lake Powell between buoys 43 and 49 to refill tanks as part of ongoing firefighting operations.
From July 4 to 6, 2025, the national Operation Dry Water awareness and enforcement initiative will take place on Lake Powell. Glen Canyon National Recreation Area Rangers, in partnership with the National Association of State Boating Law Administrators (NASBLA) and the U.S. Coast Guard, will actively participate in the national heightened awareness and enforcement weekend.
The Bridge Creek Fire, which is burning on Navajo Mountain approximately 5 miles from Lake Powell and Glen Canyon National Recreation Area, is located on Navajo Nation lands and is approximately 800 acres in size.
On Sunday, June 8 at approximately 3 p.m., a 50-year-old male, resident of Kayenta, Arizona, was overtaken by river currents downstream of Paiute Farms Wash in the San Juan River in San Juan County, Utah.
