A Bullhead City man who hurt the mother of his child and their four-month-old son has entered a plea agreement convicting him of aggravated assault and child abuse by domestic violence. Jonah Ramos, 46, faces a punishment range of probation up to 6.25 years in prison when sentenced April 29.
Two aggravated assault charges and a criminal damage count are dismissed in the deal that was unveiled Tuesday in Mohave County Superior Court. Bullhead City police responded to a domestic violence dispute last December 16 at a residence in the 2800 block of Colibri Court. Agency spokeswoman Emily Fromelt said Ramos allegedly pointed knives at his girlfriend and threatened to kill her while destroying property in the home in a fit of rage.
Prosecutor Greg McPhillips said Ramos twice punched the woman in the face as she held their four year-old son. One of the blows, he said, also landed on the top of their son’s head.
McPhillips said the woman suffered a broken nose and that the boy sustained a bruise and swelling to his head. Both victims were treated at Western Arizona Regional Medical Center.
Authorities said a neighbor interceded and directed Ramos to leave the home. Ramos fled the scene but was subsequently apprehended at the home of an acquaintance.
Duncan Rose, a prosecutorial liaison for the Arizona Department of Child Safety, informed the court that the agency is petitioning to sever Ramos’ parental rights involving the injured boy. Restitution is capped at $100,000 under terms of the agreement.
Sentencing is scheduled April 29 before Judge Rick Lambert.
