LAKE HAVASU CITY, Ariz. – Prominent members of the Lake Havasu City business community have been killed in a boating incident at Lake Havasu. Mohave County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) personnel responded to the area of Cattail Cove State Park at about 7:08 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 12.
“Deputies located a 2019, 36′ Douglas Marine boat upside down on land on the Arizona side, just north of Cattail Cove State Park,” said MCSO public information officer Anita Mortensen. Lifesaving measures performed were unsuccessful and Charles “Chip” Romer, 65, and Jennifer Luzzi, 59, were declared dead at the scene.
Romer was the president of the Romer Beverage Co., while Luzzi led the Luzzi Group real estate team.
“The initial investigation shows that the watercraft was traveling at a high rate of speed when it struck a peninsula and then became airborne,” Mortensen said. “The boat continued through the air, where it landed in a boat-in campsite north of the initial impact.”
Incident investigation continues.
