KINGMAN, Ariz. – Katie Tacheron, Chairman of Board for the Hospital District #1 of Mohave County and Teresa Boegler, board member resigned suddenly on August 5 without notice. As well, Catherine Furtado, the newly re-hired executive assistant resigned a second time.
Two years ago, Furtado resigned amid controversy after she had made accusations against two of the board members, Dr. Carol Newmyer and Daniel Valentine (who resigned from the board on June 11, 2025); however, she was re-hired with Dr. Newmyer’s vote. Each of the resignation letters was identical and no reasons were cited.
At its September 1 meeting the board voted to request applications from the public to be considered for appointment to the two vacant board seats. The board will continue that recruitment for 90 days. They voted to bring Billy Neal back in the interim as executive assistant.
The board members retired to executive session to consult with attorney Tom Price regarding a new Intergovernmental Agreement (IGA) with Arizona Health Care Cost Containment System (AHCCCS). In open session, the board voted unanimously to enter into the IGA with a price tag of $2,060,764.51 which will bring more than $5 million to KRMC.
A “bona fide donation” of $1.5 million was deposited into the district’s account with the Mohave County Treasurer on July 9 by KHI. It is uncertain when the board members were made aware of the generous donation. In other action, the board approved payment to Price in the amount of $4,978 for legal services.
At its September 8 meeting, the board tabled most items on the agenda due to the absence of Chairman Logan Marsh. There were only two members present, which is a quorum considering that the board is down to three members with the resignations of Tacheron and Boegler.
The board previously voted to have monthly meetings on the second Tuesday of each month at 4 p.m. The board has not to date posted a calendar for 2026. The next meeting is on September 15.
