Barnes sentenced to probation and community service

A former Kingman resident, now living in Las Vegas, claims that sending improper email communication and a nude image of him to a 13-year-old girl three years ago was an accident.  Kirk Barnes, 53, has indicated that he was intoxicated and that an adult female had been his intended target.

“It was just a big mistake your Honor,” Kirk Barnes, 53, said at his Wednesday sentencing hearing. “This whole thing is the worst that’s ever happened to me.”

Barnes previously pleaded guilty to furnishing obscene material to a minor.

Mohave County Superior Court Judge Derek Carlisle said that the teenager apparently never viewed the communications because they were intercepted by her mother, who had been monitoring her computer use.

Judge Carlisle credited Barnes for 11 days already spent in custody and ordered no further jail time. He placed Barnes on probation for three years and directed him to perform 120 hours of community work service.
