KINGMAN – The Kingman Police Department (KPD) has been awarded accreditation status by the Arizona Association of Chief of Police (AACOP) through its Arizona Law Enforcement Accreditation Program (ALEAP). The award was made on Thursday, September 12, during the AACOP annual conference in Laughlin, Nev.
KPD had an on-site assessment on August 5 and 6. The assessors were Deputy Chief Reuben Nuñez from the Marana Police Department and Assistant Chief Bruce Walls from the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office. Together, the assessment team verified that the Kingman Police Department was in compliance with all applicable standards.
During the accreditation ceremony in Laughlin Deputy Chief Reuben Nuñez stated, “The Kingman Police Department is developing a philosophy and culture that seeks excellence.”
Chief Dan Brown of the Winslow police Department and AACOP second Vice President and Vice Chair of the ALEAP committee stated, “The accreditation process and standards of best practices have been engrained in every division of the agency. From patrol to investigations to training to professional standards to records and administrative services, the Kingman Police Department has proven their commitment to the accreditation process. They are driven to provide friendly, professional service to their community and the assessment team left impressed with many facets of the organization.”
The University of Arizona Police Department and the Marana Police Department were also awarded accreditation status. KPD, UofA PD and Marana PD are the first three agencies in AZ to be ALEAP accredited.
Being an ALEAP accredited agency ensures that KPD meets or exceeds national best practices and industry standards for quality and professional delivery of efficient and effective police services. KPD Chief Robert DeVries was instrumental in the development of the ALEAP program. KPD’s accreditation process began last summer when Deputy Chief Evan Kunert was assigned as the department’s accreditation project manager.
During the October 1 Kingman City Council meeting ALEAP Program Manager Kevin Rhea will be making a presentation to the council regarding the KPD accreditation award.
