Kingman Day at the Capitol – Local leaders advocate for rural priorities at state level

KINGMAN – Kingman Mayor Ken Watkins, Vice Mayor Sammeli, Council Members Stehly, Ward, and Dykens, along with City Manager Tim Walsh and Deputy City Manager Tina Moline traveled to Phoenix on March 10 for Kingman Day at the Capitol, where they met with legislators and state leaders to discuss key priorities impacting the Kingman community.

During the visit, city leadership met with the city’s legislative delegation, Senator Hildy Angius and Representatives Leo Biasiucci and John Gillette, to discuss regional priorities and ongoing collaboration between state and local leadership.  “Kingman Day at the Capitol gives us the opportunity to connect directly with the leaders shaping statewide policy and to ensure Kingman’s priorities are part of those conversations,” said City Manager Tim Walsh. “Strong partnerships at the state level are critical as our community continues to grow and plan for the future.”

City leadership also met with Jennifer Loredo, Deputy Chief of Staff from the Governor’s Office, and Patrick Adams, the Governor’s water policy advisor, where discussions included the legal status of Kingman’s Irrigation Non-Expansion Area (INA) and the importance of policies that support long-term water sustainability for the region.

The visit also included meetings with representatives from the Arizona League of Cities and Towns, the Arizona Commerce Authority, the Water Infrastructure Finance Authority (WIFA), Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT), the Arizona Office of Tourism, and the Governor’s Office.  Discussions focused on current legislative issues impacting the City of Kingman, along with economic development opportunities, transportation infrastructure priorities, tourism initiatives, and utility infrastructure funding needed to support the community’s continued growth.

These discussions support Kingman’s 2026 Legislative Policy Statement, adopted by the City Council in February, which emphasizes local decision-making authority, economic development, public safety investments, sustainable water management, and infrastructure funding.
