Kingman Academy students visit City of Kingman Public Works for field trip day

KINGMAN – The City of Kingman Public Works Department recently welcomed approximately 100 second-grade students from Kingman Academy of Learning for its first-ever Public Works Field Trip Day, a hands-on educational event highlighting the many vital services and career opportunities within the City’s Public Works Department.

Students rotated through a series of interactive learning stations that showcased the wide variety of work performed by Public Works staff every day. They learned how sanitation crews operate the city’s trash trucks, how the streets department programs and maintains traffic signals, and how water operations teams locate and repair leaks to keep clean water flowing throughout the city.

The students also had the chance to explore a wheel loader, tour a Kingman Area Transit (KART) vehicle, and even climb inside a trash truck to see how it functions. Additional demonstrations included lessons on fleet maintenance, water operations, wastewater treatment and airport management, giving students a complete look at how Public Works keeps Kingman running safely and efficiently.

“This event was an incredible opportunity to show students how the work we do impacts their everyday lives,” said City of Kingman Public Works Director Jamie Curreri. “We hope experiences like this inspire them to consider future careers in public service, whether that’s driving a KART bus, repairing water lines, or operating heavy equipment.”

This marks the first year the City of Kingman has hosted Public Works Field Trip Day, and the department plans to make it an annual tradition, expanding the opportunity to include more local schools in the years ahead.
