City hosts welcome for Natalie Dawn

Five-year-old Natalie Dawn was welcomed home by a procession of city vehicles as well as an outpouring of public support last Saturday.

Natalie Dawn is a five-year old Kingman resident, was diagnosed with stage 4 high-risk neuroblastoma in February 2016. A year ago, in June 2018 Natalie relapsed.

Natalie and her family have spent much of their time in New York, where her primary doctor specializes in neuroblastoma. According to updates on her GoFundMe account “Natalie Dawn’s Second Fight” she has stopped responding to treatments and planned to come home to Kingman. Kingman Fire Department (KFD) quickly assembled a welcome home party for her with the joint efforts of Mohave County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO), Kingman Police Department (KPD), Department of Public Safety (DPS) and community members.

On Saturday, June 1, first responders from all area agencies picked Natalie up from her home. Natalie rode in a fire engine down Stockton Hill Rd where the community had lined the sidewalk holding banners and signs welcoming her home.

The procession stopped at Del E. Webb Wellness Center, where Mohave County Sheriff Doug Schuster made Natalie an Honorary Deputy, presenting her with a badge and uniform. Natalie then went to Centennial Park where her friends and family celebrated her homecoming under Ramada 2.
