Kingman deserves a town hall meeting

Dear Editor, As a concerned citizen of Kingman, I try to keep up with current issues and local news through newspapers, social media, and word of mouth. Kingman is growing and that growth comes with needed change. Change can be viewed from many perspectives and as one of you, I see change like the man on the street sees it. I see that a fast-growing number of residents are respectfully upset about community issues like road improvement and maintenance; rising taxes; population density; rezoning; infrastructure and the list goes on. So, what does a concerned citizen of Kingman do? They…

Burro management by helicopter has to go

Dear Editor, I’m writing in response to a “Letter to the Editor” that was written by last minute candidate for District 4 Supervisor Don Martin, a cousin (by marriage) of our current District 4 Supervisor Wilma Jean Bishop. His personal attack on myself and Mr. Butch Meriwether was published on Wednesday January 31, 2024 in The Standard Martin, a man with an apparent anger management problem who not long ago literally screamed at me in the lobby of the County building in front of multiple witnesses, is way off base as usual. Martin claims to be a “conservationist” but it…

Peace demonstrations suspended due to weather

Dear Editor, Typically there is a 4 to 4:30 p.m.  support Ukraine Peace Vigil at Locomotive Park here in Kingman on the first of each month. However, due to inclement weather conditions such as cold, wind and rain, the heat dome this past summer, and health challenges and this scheduled peace vigil  has been disrupted since last summer.  Rain, cold temps and wind are in the forecast for Feb. as well. Further, not only are these peace vigils for Ukraine …. but also sadly military actions have recently erupted globally.  Peace activists  will stand in solidarity for each affected area.  When the weather and…

Rebuttal to Meriwether on burros

Dear Editor, I’m writing in response to a supposed “Letter to the Editor” that was written by Mr. Butch Meriwether and published on Wednesday January 24, 2024 in your paper. First of all, in the 40-plus years that I’ve been a professional outdoors communicator, I’ve never seen a THREE-PART Letter to the Editor.  While this was a supposedly an article about “BLM utilizes inhumane methods to capture burros/horses” it clearly wasn’t that at all. In fact, this thinly disguised “Hit Piece” was designed to be some kind of a personal attack on me for seeking the District 4 Supervisors seat…
