What’s wrong with our system?

Dear Editor, Mr. Mollette’s piece in the March 13 edition of The Standard about the diminished size of your Snicker bar fails to mention one little fact, and that is how wages have risen substantially over the years. Yes, time was when you could buy a car for a couple of thousand dollars and a house for $20,000, give or take. Like most conservative republicans, Mr. Mollette wants to lay blame on President Joe Biden. Think about it, if producers of goods want to raise prices and we are willing to buy at those prices, who can we blame? For…

Leave No Person Behind

Dear Editor, As a Kingman resident everywhere I go I see men and women, young and old who identify in some way as being Military Veterans. I have come to learn that Mohave County has more veterans than any other County in the U.S. Almost 4 times as many, numbering over 23 thousand, comprising no less than 13 %of our population. I do a fair amount of reading and research and am always deeply disturbed when I read about the ongoing suicide rate of American Military Veterans, sometimes as high as 22 a day. Too many patriotic American heroes come…

Does Kingman need a 25-foot cowboy?

Dear Editor, Kingman was founded in 1882 as an Atlantic and Pacific Railroad town. It was christened as the Mohave County seat in 1887. Kingman has an interesting history, known as a historic railroad town named after railroad surveyor Lewis Kingman. In its early days, via the railroad, Kingman was an important supply and shipping center for miners and ranchers. As a candidate for Kingman City Council, I was interested in a recent agenda item to purchase a 25-foot-tall “Waving Cowboy” made of fiberglass to further enhance Old Downtown Kingman. I think the item is still up for some discussion…

Congress must demonstrate what it takes to succeed

Dear Editor, Life is fragile and doesn’t last very long, so we should try to enjoy every day.  Be good to yourself and be good to other people. Treat people the way you would like to be treated. Speak to people in a manner that you would like for them to speak to you. Treat motorists on the highway the way you want others to treat you.  If you can help someone in some way, then don’t miss the opportunity of being blessed by doing an act of kindness.  Forgive yourself and forgive others. Extend grace and move forward with…

An open letter to the City of Kingman, to the Mayor, to the Vice Mayor, to the City Manager, to all of the City Council members, and to the 68 downtown merchants, restaurants, bars, wine bars, breweries and sandwich shops

Mr. Josh Noble presented a flowery, paid for by the city, slide presentation to the City Council last week. Thank you to the council members who spoke up in favor of Downtown Kingman. Mr. Noble’s presentation was very nice, very professionally done, but Mr. Noble failed to tell you all the truth about the other 66 Fests around the country and to provide the City Council members, the mayor and others who have great interest in bringing our Route 66 Fest to Downtown Kingman, as it is being done in virtually every other locale throughout the country, where Route 66…

The crazy lady in the kitchen

Dear Editor, I just may be howling at the moon but what was that strange performance I saw on TV the other night with Katie Britt? I’m clueless to who she is other than she represented her party with their response to our President’s State of the Union address. After hearing his speech I was hopeful and uplifted, just what our country needs right now. But then came the crazy lady in the kitchen who referred to herself as “the mama on a mission,” acting and talking in a creepy kind of way that reminded one of that movie “The…
