The county that cried “deficit!”

Dear Editor, I smiled when Mohave County claimed it was facing a whopping $18.5 million deficit for 2024.  Because I knew how much money is in the County’s General Fund. I also know how much operating surplus the County has incurred over previous years. But my smile gave way to consternation when I recalled how the County leaders wanted, but failed to continue the ? cent sales tax for capital projects that ended in 2019. Perhaps that’s the motivation for their “Woe is We!” cry. The tried-and-true method for governments to raise taxes is to declare an emergency, cajole the…

A Freudian slip with good intention

Dear Editor, I’ve always enjoyed a Freudian slip. It con give insight into what else is on someone’s mind. In a recent opinion letter I wrote, “Brighter futures is not an 1800 ban.” I slipped and used the word environmental instead of economical. But maybe I did it unknowingly with good intentions being that both apply to the concerns about banned abortions. I don’t normally talk about the matters of overpopulation because how many kids one has is nobody’s business. Not unless it’s forced pregnancies by our government. Then it should be everyone’s business and the effects it will have…

Enjoy May before it fades away

Dr. Glenn Mollette  This wonderful month will be over soon but there is much to note about May.  Mother’s Day is a beautiful day. The day has come and gone but the day emphasizes a day to celebrate mom. I remember my mother who was so dear. I Remember and cherish those beautiful years.  We take our pictures and they eventually may fade but the memories and love we have for our mothers will never go away.  During May we celebrate a lot of graduations. Graduation is ongoing as colleges, high schools and even the junior highs, elementaries, and preschools are…

Martin endorsed for supervisor

Dear Editor, Unlike my usual gripe and whine, I am pleased to continue on a quite positive note. I recently had the privilege of listening to 4th District Supervisorial candidate, Don Martin speak about his view of the responsibilities to be assumed by a potential Mohave County Supervisor. I was impressed by his fervor in describing just how much he loves Mohave County and its citizenry. He also spoke on some subjects near and dear to my heart,(i.e.) his life’s service to his fellow man and his experiences here would fill a very informative, instructive and uplifting book. That and…

BikeFest a success

Dear BikeFest 2024 vendor at The Thunder Road Event Center: It was an amazing event. We want to thank you for attending and participating in this phenomenal annual event in beautiful downtown Kingman with your awesome wares. We hope you enjoyed your time during the event and had some success with your products sales. Yes, it got a little windy, as was forecast, and thank you all for having the smarts to remove the tops from your pop-ups or drop them down lower – no Dorothy and Totos were seen flying through the skies! The rain, the thunder & lightning….we thought…

Animal Rights Advocacy – discussing the importance of animal rights and ways to get involved

Dear Editor, Animal rights advocacy is an important and necessary movement that seeks to protect the rights of animals and promote their welfare. Animals are sentient beings that deserve respect and humane treatment, just like humans. They should not be subjected to cruelty, abuse, or exploitation in any form. The importance of animal rights and ways to get involved in animal rights advocacy Is a must for all people.  It is important to know animals have the ability to suffer and feel pain, just like humans. They are not mere objects to be used for human purposes, but living beings…
