Everyone needs hope

Dear Editor. There is much you and I can’t do anything about.  If you live, you can’t stop aging. The only way to stop aging is to die.  We can’t make ourselves younger. The eighteen-year-old may wish to be a few years older for various reasons. Once you turn nineteen you can’t go back to eighteen. You can look young for a long time but looking young and actually being young are two different things.  There are many illnesses you can’t do much about. You can see the finest doctors in the country and obtain the latest medications and procedures…

EV or Model-T

Dear Editor, I have been following the Old Downtown Kingman Restoration project with great concern. I have been a Kingman homeowner for only about 5 years now and the small-town charm that lured me and my wife to retire in Kingman has day by day lost some of its attraction due to ever-rising issues associated with uncontrolled growth. I hear many citizens with similar stories and inevitably city residents are seeing little relief from the growth issues but rather the current focus by the city on Old Downtown and Tourism. It was not long ago the city wanted to invest…

Big thank you

Dear Editor, I would like to take this opportunity to thank my family, friends and the community for supporting the Mary Chan’s Route 66 Race for the Joan and Diana Hospice home. I was able to raise $17,100. The proceeds from this event will help with ongoing operating expenses of the home, and helping so many families at a time when they need it most. Your generosity every year continues to make the event successful. I appreciate the people and the Kingman community. Thank you again, and God bless. Mary Chan

The Flip Side of the “Deficit” Coin

Dear Editor, I recently stated there was no deficit in the County Finances for 2024. It was good that the County acknowledged that fact shortly after I disclosed that in early April. Further, I was pleased to see the 2024-2025 Budget proposal by Sam Elters and Luke Mournian, specifically acknowledged their commitment to the GFOA’s “Fund Balance Guidelines for the General Fund”; which I first shared then Finance Director Coral Loyd in 2015. It led to the County adopting their first Fund Balance Policy in 2016. However, there is a “deficit” in the County’s reporting practices. That is not my…

Memorial Weekend – Savor your time

Dear Editor, Summer officially begins this weekend and most of us love summer.  Millions of Americans will enjoy having a weekend free from work next weekend. However, not everyone will be vacationing. Keep in mind that many Americans will keep the convenient stores, grocery stores, restaurants and many retail stores open for your shopping pleasure. Many of these hard-working people will have a day off but it may not be Monday or even during the weekend. They are a hard-working group in our country who will make it possible for you to be out and about having a fun weekend….

Reply to ‘Freudian Slip’

Dear Editor, This is the second commentary I’ve read by Ms. J.M. so I just wanted to give this one man’s opinion. Personally, I wish the Supreme Court had left Roe vs. Wade as it was. The courts and the government need to stay away and let people make their own choices because in the end it is God that judges us for our actions. The 1864 law is an example of government overreach into women’s lives. However, I do not believe abortion should be used as a form of birth control either as some individuals have. Abortion to save…
