Morning Glories raising funds

Dear Editor, The Morning Glories held a successful yard sale in front of Annie’s Attic Saturday, October 24. Annie’s Attic supported our club through the month of October by selling raffle tickets. Gifts were donated to the Morning Glories for this raffle by local businesses and individuals. Thank you to: Smith’s, True Value, Lin’s Little China, The Detail Shop, Mary’s Custom Sweaters, and Leta with BHG Wellness. Annie’s Attic supplied the space, tables, and set up and break down expertise. In addition, they have given the Morning Glories a monetary donation toward our scholarship fund. The Morning Glories is a…

Community resources lacking

Dear Editor, I would like to address the total lack of regard to the already outrageous issue of human trafficking and the direct connection between it and homelessness, drug addiction, struggling single mothers and the officials who are in the position to protect but do not. I am a victim of this horrific crime and it is my community that helped put me here. A victim of domestic violence I had to choose to be homeless to be safe and there are no resources for me and my family. No transitional housing, no food vouchers, no identification, no food boxes,…

“Stupidvisors” and City Council play Ostrich

Dear Editor, Our esteemed Mohave County “Stupidvisors” have outdone themselves this time. When it comes to being stupid, they win the Blue Ribbon. This time, however, their stupidity may very well cost the lives of some of our county residents. This not only makes them stupid, but, extremely dangerous to the citizens of Mohave County. Let’s go back just a few days. On Wednesday, October 28 the Mohave County Department of Public Health announced there were another 53 new COVID-19 cases in Mohave County. That brought the county case count to 4,197 cases, that is real people, not just a…

Biden and Trump, follow your heart and mind

Dear Editor, Typically, the heart leads us and keeps us in various places throughout life.  Most of the time people marry because at that moment that’s where their hearts have led them to be. For better or worse many people stay in marriages most of their lives because they have given their heart to their spouse. We sometimes pursue careers because we have a heart for the vocation. There is something about the vocation that inspires and motivates us. Because our heart is in the work, we stay with the occupation. Success is more likely to occur where the heart is…

Selective enforcement or intentional deflection

Dear Editor, I live in Valle Vista and have experienced inaction from the daily newspaper and local Kingman fire chief and his employee as well as Mohave County Development Services (MCDS) concerning codes and enforcement. This has progressed to ignoring my concerns. In September I wrote three different letters to the editor to the local daily newspaper concerning Northern Arizona Consolidated Fire District (NACFD), requesting a meeting concerning fire protection in Valle Vista, primarily about lack of communication, existing fire hazards, and weed abatement. I was told that they could only publish one per month. To date, none have been…

Doesn’t believe in masks

EDITOR’S NOTE: Mohave County Newspapers and The Standard firmly supports and encourages the use of mask and social distancing during the pandemic. Dear Editor, The science and the facts agree; masks do not work to control viruses. After months of universal mask-wearing in many parts of the country and the world, the virus is still spreading. Japan, Hong Kong, Israel, France, Peru, the Philippines, UK, Spain, Hawaii, Alabama, California, and Miami are just a few examples of places with prolific spread long after very strict mask mandates and high compliance were in place. We are told to listen to the…
