Groundwater is one of Mohave County’s most valuable assets- we must protect it

Dear Editor, Arizona is one of the fastest growing states in the country, with enviable economic expansion and population growth. This growth, however, depends upon steady and reliable sources of water, a precious natural resource that must be sustainably managed. Here in Mohave County, our industries, particularly our agricultural community, need reliable water supplies. It’s the foundation upon which our economy rests. Groundwater in particular is a fundamental part of this growth, and new research from Arizona State University found that it contributed an estimated 43% of Arizona’s gross domestic product (GDP), or $1.2 trillion to the economy, over the course of nine…

Thoughts on development fees

Dear Editor,                                                                                                 The City Council of Kingman wants to impose impact fees from the current $1,456 to $6,108. That is five times higher in one action. This would have a detrimental effect on all business in the Kingman area. Kingman’s growth is sustainable and has not moved to the status of urban sprawl. The City is using a study by a company from Maryland to attempt to meet the state requirements to move ahead with the impact fees. The study is flawed and technically does not meet the state requirements to impose the impact fees. The study is generic at…
