Electoral college supports minoritarianism

Dear Editor, Mr. Wesley Maroney raises a valid point regarding the Electoral College keeping a balance between states representation. My objection to this system lies within the figures. Consider this. California has a population of approximately 40 million people and 55 members comprise its Electoral College allotted votes, a roughly calculated ratio of one elector to 700,000 people. Wyoming has a population in the 580,000 range with three members in its Electoral College. This results in another roughly calculated ratio of one elector to 200,000 people. In my opinion here is the problem. One elector represents 700,000 people in California…

Are we honestly alone?

My wife Chris and I were watching a TV program recently called “Aliens – The Definitive Guide,” and it got me thinking. I don’t know about you, but there have been times when I feel as if someone is watching me or I sense a presence of someone or something near me that I can’t see. There have also been times where some ghostly figures have appeared, I couldn’t explain. Before I jump headfirst into the subject I am about to embark upon, I can just hear the theologians, scientists and hardcore believers of the various religions of the world…

Who is perfect? Biden, Trump, McConnell, Pelosi?

Dear Editor, Democrats have proven once again that they can find fault in President Donald Trump. Faults and flaws were found in him before the election. Many years before politics there were never any rave reviews about him being perfect.  During the recent impeachment trial, Democrats and Republicans hammered home their perspectives and interpretation of Trump’s speech given on January 6 th to those who came to Washington to protest. Once again Americans either agreed or disagreed with the outcome of the impeachment trial.   Surely most Americans will agree there is no such thing as a perfect President. Was John F. Kennedy…

It’s a Marine thing: Why Marines say “Semper Fi”

The following submission was published in the Winter edition of “Semper Fi”, the magazine of the Marine Corps League. It is authored by Kingman resident Terry Flanagan, Commandant, Dean W. Reiter Detachment 887. Some time ago, I pulled into a gas station, and as I exited my pickup, a voice was heard behind me: “Semper Fi.” As I turned to see who had used the term, a gentleman with a baseball cap that had the EGA and the word ‘Marine’, had just exited the vehicle behind me at the pumps. I will assume that he knew I had a connection…

Our bill will save lives and protect women

Dear Editor, Despite the efforts of the left, Arizona is a pro-life state. In addition to our pro-life laws, our state is home to dozens of centers, clinics, and social services to support women and families facing unplanned pregnancy. But what happens when those very women and families don’t know about these resources? 12 years ago, Tina Stephens had an abortion. But an abortion was the last thing she wanted. After finding out she was pregnant, she searched desperately online for resources and support to make it financially possible for her and her husband to bring another baby into their…
