BOS meeting: County Manager position open; rural television coverage will not be expanded

MOHAVE COUNTY – Dozens of people have applied for the Mohave County Manager position that Mike Hendrix will vacate for retirement on June 30. Human Resources Director Ken Cunningham said a national recruiting campaign netted 44 job applications by Wednesday. “They’re from all over the nation. They’re not just local,” Cunningham said of the applicant field. Cunningham said a four-member hiring selection committee includes Presiding Superior Court Judge Chuck Gurtler, Sheriff Doug Schuster, County Attorney Matt Smith and retired Kingman Unified School District Superintendent Roger Jacks. County ends day with eight new COVID-19 cases; total of 17 deaths, 156 cases

MOHAVE COUNTY, AZ (May 6, 2020) Late this afternoon, the Mohave County Health Department (MCDPH) Nursing staff was notified of eight COVID-19 positive cases in Mohave County. Six of these are in the Kingman service area and two are in the Lake Havasu City service area. Of the six Kingman service area individuals, one, who is 65+, is hospitalized and is linked to another case.  The other five are all linked to another case, in isolation, and recovering at home. KINGMAN – On Friday, May 1, Kingman Regional Medical Center (KRMC) was awarded an ‘A’ when the Leapfrog Group announced their spring 2020 Hospital Safety Grade. The designation recognizes KRMC’s efforts in protecting patients from harm and providing safer healthcare. KINGMAN – The Kingman-area COVID-19 situation has not changed enough to go forward with the scheduled Sounds of Kingman May concert, Arizona Thunder. Therefore, for the safety of everyone in the community, the Arizona Thunder Concert scheduled for May 17, and sponsored by Taco Bell, has been postponed. Sounds of Kingman is working now to reschedule the season’s first two Concerts in the Park, as well as the special fairgrounds concert they had scheduled for March 21. Homicide may have been domestic dispute

 One man shot and killed his boyfriend in north Kingman early Monday. The Mohave County sheriff’s office has provided further details of the violence that unfolded at the suspect’s home in the 900 block of John Norman Ln.    Spokeswoman Anita Mortensen said the victim, Christopher Young, 30, had moved in with Christopher Kacos, 33, about a month ago. A female neighbor knocked on their door at 2:41 a.m to complain about loud music coming from the home.    “Young became aggressive and started hitting her over the head,” Mortensen said. Kacos told responding deputies that Young ran off into the desert….
