Messersmith speaks on Kingman tunnels

Kingman Route 66 Rotary Club’s April 5 speaker was Kingman Historian and fellow club member Dan Messersmith. Messersmith addressed the club on the Kingman tunnels. Most or all of the tunnels originating prior to 1888 were destroyed in the devastating fires of 1888, 1898 and 1907. Two tunnels were built in 1909. The first, a steam pipe under the Powerhouse running east, and the second, a large sewer system by the railroad. These have since sealed up with no access today.

Fulfillment brings contentment

For many years, one of the nation’s leading producers of dairy products advertised that all its milk came from contented cows. I suppose that we were to believe that the more contented the cow, the sweeter the milk. Though I am not certain that this is true, I am certain that contentment in God’s people produces a sweeter attitude toward life in general. The apostle Paul, as a man called to serve Christ, discovered that his service included sufferings. Most of us would never be able to understand such requirements and therefore would not be able to accept them. But…

Scam warning to businesses

The Kingman Police Department has taken several reports over the last few months where it is reported that the “scammer” calls a business and portrays being the owner or district manager of the business.  The “scammer” will attempt to convince the employee to gather all of the cash from the store and obtain gift or money cards. The information on the cards is then given to the “scammer” who then redeems the cash at another location.  Several employees, predominantly younger and naïve, have almost followed through when their employment is threatened.  As in almost every scam the “scammer” uses fear…
