Annual Desert Juggernaut’s Mini Triathlon promises challenges

BULLHEAD CITY – A triathlon consists of three legs of athletic endeavor: swim, bike, run, in that order. Length is what determines the level of athleticism displayed. The top tier triathlon, an Ironman, is a 2.4-mile (3.9k) swim, followed by a 112-mile (180.2k) bicycle race, and finished up with a 26.2-mile (marathon-length, 42.2k) run. The average time ranges from 14-17 hours, although many organizers extend that for athletes who had a tire repair/tube replace slow her down. No? Yea, us neither. Maybe something shorter? Easier? MOHAVE COUNTY – President and founder of SheStrong Inc. Brandy Ramirez is reaching out and inviting kids, ages 6 through 13, in Mohave County to come out and participate in SheStrong’s first ever USAT Youth Splash and Dash event on August 5 at Centennial Community Park in Kingman. Volunteers golf teams ready to swing

KINGMAN – Rebekah Sherwood, head coach of Lee Williams’ Lady Vols golf team, is starting her second year at the helm, but with the added challenge of also head coaching the Volunteers boy’s golf team concurrently. 2022 was Sherwood’s first year as the Lady Vols head coach. KINGMAN – No one was injured in a residential structure fire in north Kingman Friday. Northern Arizona Fire Department personnel, supported by the Kingman Fire Department, responded at 7:30 p.m. to the incident in the 4400 block of Pinal St. “Units arrived on scene and found moderate smoke coming from the garage of the home,” said Battalion Chief Joseph Baca. “The homeowner on scene stated that the fire started accidentally due to improperly discarding cigarette ashes and butts that quickly spread to nearby contents inside the garage.” Baca said crews entered both garage doors and extinguished the fire. Bullhead City water amenities closed due to lightning hazard 

BULLHEAD CITY – The Bullhead City Municipal pool, the splash pad at Ken Fovargue Park, and the Splash Pad at the Community Park Family Fun Zone, are all closed until further notice.   “We’re seeing lighting in the area, and we have closed our water amenities to keep the public safe,” said Parks and Recreation Superintendent David Heath. “We’ll reopen the amenities as soon as the lighting subsides, and we feel it is safe to reopen.”
