Interim city manager begins with overview

KINGMAN – Interim Kingman City Manager Grady Miller toured municipal facilities and infrastructure and spent time meeting department heads and key staff members once he began his new job Sept. 25. Miller has no major reforms in mind but understands Council direction regarding one local government service sector. “The one area that I think Council identified as a concern before I was hired was the whole development services arena, the building, safety, plan reviews and inspections and so I’m kind of focusing on those areas right now,” Miller said Wednesday. “What I appear to see so far is competent staff…

ARPA update: Less than half of county allocation has been designated

MOHAVE COUNTY – Mohave County has allocated less than half of the $41.5-million of its share of the $1.9-million American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) signed into law by President Joe Biden in March, 2021. It’s essentially stimulus money, helping communities rebound from pandemic related economic challenges while funding a myriad of projects and improvements across the nation. $362-million of the massive funding package flowed to state and local government. Mohave County Manager Sam Elters updated local ARPA accounting figures during Monday’s Board of Supervisors meeting. “To date, $28.5-million has been programmed. Of that money that is programmed, $11.7-million has been…

GVID future undecided

GOLDEN VALLEY – The future of the Golden Valley Improvement District (GVID) remains unclear following lengthy discussion at Monday’s Mohave County Board of Supervisors(BOS) meeting. Members of the BOS serve as the governing board for the GVID but there are options to transition the entity to a domestic (citizen) administered district or to sell it to a Missouri-based company interested in a possible purchase. Golden Valley residents supplied a mix of input during board consideration of what to do with the GVID. Patrick Stone said the GVID has operated well over the years, despite a surcharge controversy and some other…

Work on new cycle shop temporarily stopped

KINGMAN – A license suspension has resulted in work stoppage at a commercial construction site where a new contractor will soon be on the job in downtown Kingman. Minuteman Building owner Jeff Erb said the Arizona Registrar of Contractors suspended his license last month due to an administrative issue rather than poor performance. Erb said oversight and failure to pay its bond produced the suspension. He said he is working through that matter and expects to have his license reinstated in less than a week. Erb said his two-year-old company took on too much work too fast and has experienced…
