City manager post draws 43 applicants

KINGMAN – Some 43 people applied for the Kingman City Manager position before the Jan. 8 deadline. Human Resources Director Krista Toschlog said residents of 18 states applied for the job, a dozen of them from Arizona.

Toschlog said no one from the city will see or review all of the applications, and that the preliminary work is being handled by Gov HR USA, the headhunting firm under contract to handle recruitment of the city’s top administrator. In fact, she said the firm has already pared in half the field of applicants.

Toschlog said GOV HR USA is now engaged in further vetting to identify candidates to forward for review by city officials. How many of them there might be, and whether any might be from Arizona or Mohave County, is unclear.

“We don’t know that yet. That’s what this week will hold,” she said. “We have an executive session scheduled for Tuesday, Jan. 30 to review screened candidates and to select semi-finalists, determine dates and processes for onsite interviews, tours and any community involvement desired by council.”

While the timeline to the finish line is not specifically nailed down, an initial goal was established to complete the interview process the week of Feb. 12, followed by Council contemplation of selection and hire.

Grady Miller is serving as interim manager following council contract termination of former manager Ron Foggin last Aug.
