Veterans Home receives donation

Kingman Route 66 Rotary Club recently donated ADA-compliance cost and a women’s room to the Veterans Home (formerly the old Mohave County building), 301 Oak St.,  now under reconstruction by the Jerry Ambrose Veterans Council. Club President Karen Brown, Rotary 5495 District Governor David Simmer and Rotary Club Publicity Co-Chairman Jo Ann Oxsen were given a tour of the facility September 13 by Jerry Ambrose Veterans Council Treasurer Doreen O’Banion. Upon completion, the facility will be staffed 24/7, provide 26 rooms (including eight for opioid crisis) for homeless veterans, and will have a resource computer lab.

Men and women who want to become firefighters should fill out an application for the Spring 2020 MCC Fire Academy. Mohave Community College’s Fire Science program partners with local fire stations to offer the best education and training in the region. Completion of the fire academy is a requirement for anyone who wants to become a firefighter. The MCC Fire Academy is a 272-hour course providing recruits training in basic firefighting concepts including fire behavior, rescue procedures, command and control, fire suppression, hazardous materials, and firefighter safety. Hoover Dam interns graduate

On August 8, the most recent class of Hoover Dam’s Power System Electrician Apprentices — Corinna Wittig, Chris Hanson, Dustin Shigematsu, Richard Stewart and Paul Valdez — graduated from their four-year program, becoming journeyman electricians. The graduates have earned certificates from the Department of Labor, Nevada State Apprenticeship Council and the Lower Colorado Dams Office, along with this highly anticipated graduation ceremony. To the delight of all present, including upper management, family members and well-wishing coworkers, the ceremony was a capstone celebration of the graduates’ accomplishments and expression of gratitude to their families, leaders and instructors. Kino Avenue Waterline Project update

New closure in effect next week- KINGMAN – Kino Avenue between Irving Street and Kenneth Street will be closed starting the morning of September 16, through 5 p.m., September 26. The project to install a new water transmission main on Kino Ave., between Arizona Street to the Mohave Wash, started August 12. Portions of Kino Ave. will be closed throughout the project, and detours will be in place for street closures. MOHAVE COUNTY – On May 3, , the Governor of Arizona signed Senate Bill 1033 (SB1033) into law which changes how property taxes are billed to owners with mortgaged properties. SB1033 deals with property that is valued by the county assessor and subject to taxation by the county treasurer.
