Boaters safety evacuated from blaze

LAKE HAVASU CITY – On Saturday, Feb. 1, the Mohave County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) Division of Boating Safety responded to a reported boat fire in the middle of the North Basin on Lake Havasu. According to an MCSO spokesperson, the three boat occupants had made it onto other boats that were in the area, and were not injured. Deputies, utilizing their patrol boat outboard motors, were able to extinguish the fire. The boat was salvaged by a local tow company. Temporary closure of McCulloch Boulevard for Winterfest Street Festival

LAKE HAVASU CITY – On Saturday, February 8, McCulloch Boulevard is closed for the Annual Winterfest Street Festival, from Acoma Boulevard to Smoketree Avenue, beginning at 2:30 a.m., and reopens at 11:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 9. The hours of the Winterfest event are from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 8 and from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 9. Murder-suicide traffic stop

KINGMAN – State police said a local resident committed a murder-suicide following a Sunday traffic stop in Kingman. The Arizona Department of Public Safety (DPS) said the older model pickup truck was pulled over at 1:49 p.m. A news release said during the course of the traffic stop the trooper learned the driver and passenger had felony warrants with nationwide extradition pending for illegal drugs out of Colorado. “When the trooper returned to the pickup, the driver displayed a handgun and shot the female passenger,” the release said. “As a result of the driver’s actions, the trooper drew and fired…

Supervisors move to protect limited area groundwater

MOHAVE COUNTY – Mohave County Supervisors voted unanimously (5-0) at their latest meeting on Feb .3, to approve its chairman signing a letter to Thomas Buschatzke, the Director of the Arizona Department of Water Resources to undertake actions to designate the Hualapai Valley Groundwater Basin (less the Southern Greggs Subarea) an Irrigation Non-Expansion Area (INA).  Mohave County officials are very active in protecting their water rights and strongly contend that the expansion of large scale agricultural usage is rapidly depleting the aquifer and the potential remains for further expansion in the future. Stumpf sentenced to 16 years in I-40 shooting death

KINGMAN – Tears flowed on both sides of the courtroom Thursday, Feb. 6, as a Kingman man was sentenced for shooting and killing his friend last February. Bradley Stumpf, 32, previously pleaded guilty to second degree murder in the death of Jason McCafferty, 46. Stumpf’s father apologized to McCafferty’s family and asked for mercy, while the victim’s family questioned the propriety of a plea agreement capping prison time at 20 years. Mohave County Superior Court Judge Derek Carlisle ordered a 16-year prison term for Stumpf. The defendant and victim were doing some survey work in Phoenix before they drove back…
