Push for cultured meat research

Dear Editor, The Farm System Reform Act — a bill championed by Cory Booker, which would ban factory farms — should include funding for cultured-meat research. For those who don’t know, cultured meat is grown from cells, without slaughtering animals. This technology would ameliorate many problems the Farm System Reform Act seeks to address. Most obviously, cultured meat resolves concerns about animal welfare, as animals aren’t involved in the process. But it would also benefit human health and the environment. Dear Editor, Once again a letter writer raises my ire. Hopefully this country is evolving, by looking back at a past where slave ownership was acceptable, and black individuals or women could not vote. Board votes to open county employee gyms but not public gyms

MOHAVE COUNTY – Mohave County intends to allow its employees to use gym facilities in county buildings while the general public is prohibited from accessing gyms in the commercial sector by virtue of Governor Doug Ducey’s coronavirus-related executive orders. County Manager Sam Elters told the Board that he closed county gyms to the workforce “because it wouldn’t look good” while citizens can’t visit their private fitness facilities. Drug transport nets 5 years in prison

LAKE HAVASU CITY – A Lake Havasu City man resolved his criminal case in expedited fashion Wednesday, August 19. David Davenport, 41, was sent to prison for five years after entering a plea agreement. The sentence was mandated in the plea deal convicting Davenport of transportation of narcotic drugs for sale. Prosecutor Jacob Cote said authorities confiscated more than nine grams of heroin from Davenport following a February 1 traffic stop on Bahama Drive. -Dave Hawkins
