Laughlin Highway upgrades, lane closures start August 25

LAUGHLIN, Nev. – The Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT) announces a dozen crash-related roadway pavement and barrier rail repairs along the Laughlin Highway (State Route 163) west of Casino Drive in Laughlin. The $200,000 project also calls for upgrades along State Route 165 (Nelson Road) at U.S. Highway 95 in Clark County. Gault Development LLC is the general contractor. Crews will be working from 6 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. daily, Monday through Friday, starting August 25. Dear Editor, Throughout the country school systems appear to be somewhat stunned on how to make our schools safe from COVID-19. COVID-19 is odorless, tasteless, invisible and everywhere. Our young people are counting on us to get this right so they can get back to some sense of normal learning activity. We know things will not be back to normal for a while, and that everything is getting wiped down, but more needs to be done. Dear Editor, Some of America’s problems can be fixed. Voting in the November election should not be a problem for Americans. Open the polls for at least two days. Every state should open their polls from 6 AM until 8 PM. Some states already have later evening hours like Californians who may vote until 8 PM and New Yorkers who may vote as late as 9 PM. Alleged drug dealers enter plea deals

MOHAVE COUNTY – Defendants from Bullhead City and Golden Valley will be going to prison under terms of recently entered plea agreements that resolve their separate drug cases. A 5.5-year prison term is mandated in the plea deal for Brock Barnett, 30. The Bullhead City man pleaded guilty on August 11 to possession of narcotic drugs for sale. Deputy Mohave County attorney Morgan Carstensen said Barnett was on probation for two 2019 theft cases when a June search of his home at 1730 Coronado Drive turned up four grams of heroin, $920 cash and drug paraphernalia.
