MOHAVE COUNTY — Further details and the name of the Kingman man killed in an Officer-Involved-Shooting (OIS) have been released by the Lake Havasu City Police Department (LHCPD). The agency is conducting an independent investigation, which is standard procedure in OIS incidents.
LHCPD sergeant Kyle Ridgway said Mohave County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) deputies responded just before 2:00 p.m. on Friday, May 9 to a report of domestic violence at a home in the 4000 block of North Ty Street. He said two male roommates had been involved in a dispute, with 56-year-old Jack Lagerwey threatening the other man with a firearm while making statements about pouring gas around the home.
Ridgway said Lagerwey barricaded himself inside a bedroom and claimed to be armed. SWAT team personnel from the MCSO and Bullhead City Police Department (BHCPD) were activated as a perimeter around the property was established.
“After approximately two to three hours of negotiation, the suspect exited the residence and pointed a firearm directly at officers,” Ridgway said. “In response, three MCSO deputies and one BHCPD officer discharged their rifles, striking the suspect.”
Lagerwey was transported to Kingman Regional Medical Center where he died of his injuries. No officers or civilians were hurt.
