Colorado River Indian Tribes holds annual Mega Throw in Parker

PARKER – Colorado River Indian Tribes held its annual Mega Throw XVIII on March 21 and 22 at the Ahkhav Park Reserve in Parker. The event was a celebration of tribal culture through bird singing and dancing.

The theme of the event was “Amat Kahvah Kiied’em Shot Koh”, which means “Touching/Dancing on Earth’s ground brings good.” The event featured various adult competitions, including horseshoe-throwing. Social dancing followed the competitions, including food—funnel cakes, Indian tacos, and Texas tornadoes.

Clarence Gonzales of Rezconnect Entertainment said, “There were songs, learned from elders, songs learned from the spirit and songs passed down from lineages, that the royal family of the Yuman People shared at Mega Throw 2025.”

The Mega Throw began in January, 2004, with eight young men that formed a group called Ase’S’ Smaav which wanted to preserve tribal history through song.

”My experience at the mega throw is always heartwarming,” said California Inter-Tribal singers group member Camron Hayes. “Singing and sharing our songs learned from the elders before us, seeing old friends and making new friends. Watching the youngsters grow and participate, feeling  their energy and excitement is joyous and hope I will make it back for years to come”.
