LHC council discusses tourism presentation

LAKE HAVASU CITY – The Lake Havasu Police Department is making strides to improve the safety of our deserts. Last week’s city council meeting presented a public service announcement about two ranger vehicles funded by Arizona State Parks to prevent criminal littering and misuse of the land. To avoid citizens from being fined, law enforcement is asking visitors of the desert to abide by what they are referring to as the seven principles of Leave no Trace. Those seven principles are as follows. Plan ahead and prepare, travel and camp on durable surfaces, dispose of waste properly, leave what you find, minimize campfire impacts, respect wildlife and finally, be considerate.

Lake Havasu’s most vital organization of tourism Go Lake Havasu presented the city with a lengthy quarterly presentation about how tourism plays an essential economic role within our community. The tourism nonprofit shared that in just this past year, the small beach town has had over 1.6 million visitors.  Other facts presented by the Go Lake Havasu team was putting emphasis on the age demographics of the area which is 55 to 64 as well as the spending patterns of our tourist with outdoor recreation being one of the popular activities amongst vacationers.

The city manager’s report had some very special news to share about Mayor Sheehy.  Mayor Sheehy was recognized with a Freeman by Right Honorable Lord Mayor for the city of London. This is a merit for dedication, civic service, and values. It stands as a mark of respect for one of the world’s most historic cities in the world.
